Abstract

This final chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the book and highlights the ways in which themes criss-cross the chapters, regardless of context or geography. This is an important insight as understanding the commonalities of student engagement provides the means to consider a way forward. As we know, our student populations are increasingly diverse, and many learners are now ‘intersected’ by multiple equity and demographic markers. How the higher education sector addresses thorny issues such as student engagement is increasingly complex and challenging. This chapter brings together the discussions and case studies in this book to consider the various ways that student engagement has been enacted and addressed. By drawing on the book as a collective, rather than discrete contributions, this chapter provides key insights and recommendations for the sector, when considering the issues related to student engagement in higher education.
