Hardship - the toll of rising prices

Abstract

Reductions in the availability of food such as poor harvests, livestock diseases and natural disasters lead to rising food prices which force difficult decisions on how to allocate individual/family resources and cause hardship even if a famine is not the outcome. The likely effects on nutrition and health are outlined. The methods that can be used to limit spikes in food process are discussed.
