Social science and increasing productivity - lessons from the Green Revolution

Abstract

The case for co-requisite input from social scientists to the process of increasing agricultural productivity in the wake of scientific advances is made. Examples from the experiences of the Green Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s are used to illustrate the folly of not involving social scientists in the process of technological improvement.
