Abstract

Synthesizing the presentations of the previous chapters, this final chapter outlines the Buddhist way of protecting Nature and the environment. After reviewing the contemporary world marked by environmentalism and climate actions, a Buddhist way is presented to each of the four major environmental and Nature issues addressed in this book: protecting species of animals and plants, environmental pollution, using Nature’s resources, and protecting the planet’s climate system. The Buddhist way is unique in that it is rooted on the emptiness of inherent existence of all phenomena, which is the perfect wisdom only found in Buddhism. The bodhicitta, which is the resolute mind to free sentient beings from intolerable ocean of suffering, is what motivates the environmental and climate actions of Buddhists.
