Tackling globally shared challenges such as climate change

Climate change is a unique environmental problem. The primary pollutant, carbon dioxide, does not directly harm humans and ecosystems, but does so indirectly through an alteration of the climate system of the planet. The science of climate change is at the heart of climate change debates. The advancement of climate science has revealed the anthropogenic climate change of the planet. A globally harmonized action through a climate treaty has turned out to be precarious owing to, among other things, the participants’ willingness to free ride. On the other hand, human civilizations and sentient beings have survived on this planet by adapting to weather and climatic conditions since beginningless time. As such, there is ample evidence that people and ecosystems can adapt to climate change. A collective action driven single-mindedly by climate fear will turn out to be perilous for the planet’s civilizations.
