Controversies surrounding digitalization: discussions in four key domains

Abstract

This research aims to shed light on the controversial discourses regarding the impact of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, within four selected domains of the socio-economic system where perspectives on digitalization are highly debatable. Through critical analysis of relevant literature as the primary methodology, this research presents various theoretical approaches and narratives concerning digitalization in four areas: societal impact (digital existence); innovation (centralization versus democratization); entrepreneurship (digital ecosystem); and science (progress versus retreat). As digital technologies progressively change our way of living, the analysis intends to stimulate reflections and broader discussions on the direction of digital expansion. It stresses that the path of digital development should be determined by social choices that are in the best interests of people.
