Abstract

This chapter analyses the relationships between digital entrepreneurial ecosystems (DEEs) and progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level. The authors deployed the multiple regression analysis of secondary data collected from the Digital Platform Economy Index 2020 (to assess the DEEs of countries) and from the Sustainable Development Report 2020 (to assess national performance on the 17 SDGs). The results suggest that healthy DEEs can foster the performance of countries in achieving the 17 SDGs. Nevertheless, DEEs produce mixed impacts on national SDG performance. This chapter contributes to the literature by describing the role of DEEs in contributing towards achieving the SDGs, bridging key topics that otherwise remain scarcely studied. For practice, this chapter portrays fundamental areas that are able to contribute towards fostering more sustainable futures, identifying implications for stakeholders from the public and private sectors within the DEE scope. For policy, this chapter depicts the importance of science, innovation, and technology (STI) policies tailored towards the specific national characteristics capable of fostering sustainable development agendas and thus contribute towards achieving the SDGs.
