Abstract

In recent years, ePortfolio practice has come to prominence in educational settings as both a process and platform to support assessment, professional development, and lifelong learning. Whilst ePortfolio practice slowly gained traction in educational settings since their first adoption in the 1990s, we have seen an increasing and persistent need for digital learning environments and digital assessment in more recent years. In this new landscape, ePortfolios are seen as both an innovative and an authentic assessment approach. This chapter will explore what an ePortfolio is, or rather, what it can be: dynamic, creative, and reflective whilst embracing many different media and formats. The breadth of potential for ePortfolio practice can often prove challenging but its inherent flexibility results in a unique, student-centred, and engaging approach to support many facets of the learning journey.
