Abstract

The sheer ubiquity of the LMS can sometimes result in it being overlooked. It is frequently the central element of digital education in higher education and, in comparison to some of the more “exotic” platforms and technologies that have emerged in recent times, it can look a little jaded and clunky. This chapter assumes at least some degree of awareness of the functions and capabilities of an LMS in higher education but also asks you to consider some aspects of LMS use that you may not have previously considered, both positive and negative. The chapter concludes with a series of suggestions for future practice that relate to the technical, pedagogical, support and communication aspects of LMS use in facilitating a genuinely interactive digital education experience.
