Abstract

How can educators stay abreast not only of relevant technology use options in the field but also learn to cut through the hype that often surrounds new products? This chapter offers touchstones towards more critical approaches to education technology; specifically inviting readers to notice, wonder and investigate. The author uses her own experiences in community and critical skill building to illustrate these concepts in practice. She shares her story of becoming a critical beginner through reading, writing and dialoging with scholars in the Digital Humanities and Critical Digital Pedagogy. The author suggests that daring to not know opens doors to active learning and encourages readers to question their assumptions in any pedagogical decision-making process, but particularly when evaluating the use of new technological tools.
