Abstract

This chapter addresses the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in education and society more broadly. It explores the unique properties of AI and ML, examines the key factors contributing to their rise, and discusses their broad impacts across various sectors, with a particular focus on education. Making the case for a future interwoven with AI and ML and advocating for a balanced approach that appreciates their benefits while mitigating risks, the chapter highlights the unique position of education in shaping society’s engagement with AI and ML, highlighting the need for ethical considerations and interdisciplinary approaches to ensure responsible utilisation.
