Technology assessment for a ‘good’ Anthropocene

In: Handbook of Technology Assessment

  • Armin Grunwald

Abstract

The concluding chapter bundles insights from the Handbook and considers them in the framework of the Anthropocene. Some cross-cutting lessons learned are presented, focusing on contextualization in TA, on its underlying values, on its global dimension, and on capacity-building in TA. Current challenges are addressed with respect to changing anthropological conditions in the digital transformation, the global crisis of democracies, and the accelerated innovation dynamics. Finally, some perspectives for the future of TA for contributing to a ‘good’ Anthropocene will be discussed, reflecting on TA supporting the resilience of future societies, on TA as a transformative force towards sustainable development, and on the potential of TA for contributing to more global justice and equity.
