Diversity, inclusion, and international business policy

It becomes clear that, when examining diversity and inclusion in the context of international business, there are numerous influences at play. In this regard, this chapter suggests a multi-level approach to managing inclusion in the realm of IBP, acknowledging the importance of context involved in order to enhance inclusion management. It contends that when it comes to diversity and inclusion in the context of IBP, a relational approach is necessary for any approach to be effective. The relational framework not only integrates insights from all levels of analysis beyond micro, meso and macro levels but also helps to scrutinize where agency and structure may exist. Furthermore, a relational approach helps in building a comprehensive understanding of the distinctive discourses and implementations of inclusion management in each society by relying on macro-national and historical context, in addition to considering organizational and individual level. The relational framework proposed in this chapter delineates not only the dichotomy between positivistic and interpretive research methods but also encompasses both objective and subjective realities of diversity and inclusion.
