Abstract

In this chapter I take up the issue of how neighborhood clustering comes about, its dimensions and the individual behaviors which in total, create the look and feel of cities. The specific focus in this chapter is the role of neighborhood search and choice. The argument is that search for housing is a fundamental process in neighborhood formation and continuity. The search involves identifying housing or apartment alternatives, their locations, and neighborhoods, and considering them against the current house or apartment, and choosing one of the alternatives.
