Abstract

In this chapter, we will familiarize ourselves with the type of institutional environment elements that organizations encounter directly in, more or less, everyday operations, namely elements that I refer to here as 'institutional products'. These are put under the general categories of material and social products. Also of importance is the packaging of products. If they are packaged in a text, they have been materialized, enabling them to be distributed to many. If, in addition, they have been validated through science (such as scientific reports), by government agencies (such as documents in the form of laws) or by international organizations like the ISO (standards), they have also been given the capacity to stand alone. Although the form of an institutional product is important, how it is received may be a matter of how it is interpreted in the social context where it is received.
