Abstract

The chapter brings together the main findings of the assessment in this book. The overview points out that technological progress undermines the European promise to protect fundamental rights granted to individuals under EU law. Technology also affects the principle of good administration, which EU law also guarantees as an individual right under Article 41 of the Charter. The findings demonstrate that one critical reason for this legal vulnerability arises from the limited and ambiguous legal and practical enforcement powers of judicial and non-judicial supervisory authorities. The discussion in this chapter also offers a non-exhaustive list of open questions and areas that deserve the attention of a legal order based on the rule of law.
