Abstract

The chapter opens with an exploration of the dire current condition and influence businesses hold over planetary health. It follows with a positive outlook that not only compels enterprises to act but assures them of the window-period in which to do so. This requires open-mindedness to an evolving meaning of value and improvement work, charting a new course to develop people. To ask employees to help to address the issues of our time requires that we develop and empower them to do so. As such, Gemba-inspired strategies need to connect sustainable ambitions with realistic on-the-ground action by equipping and supporting employees to act on opportunities faced. Looking ahead, the author proposes practical insights accessible by many as opposed to complex theories understood by only a few. In this way, it is possible to build confidence in everyone to help to solve what is arguably the greatest challenge of our generation.
