Abstract

This chapter starts by stressing the importance of setting analysis objectives. Next, it distinguishes among different foci of analysis as reflected in description, estimation, and hypothesis testing, respectively. Lastly, it looks at the various factors that influence the choice of analytical procedures, highlighting the conditions favoring the use of parametric versus non-parametric statistics.
