Abstract

This chapter delves into the impact of energy security on poverty alleviation across a span of 12 economically challenged Asian nations. Utilizing principal component analysis, we constructed an energy security index to discern its role in the context of poverty reduction. To address issues of endogeneity and dynamism, we employed the system generalized method of moment technique, complemented by a panel-corrected standard error for robustness. Our findings unveil a positive correlation between energy security and poverty reduction, challenging conventional assumptions. This study concludes that bolstering energy security emerges as a catalyst for sustainable poverty alleviation. Our recommendations advocate for implementing feed-in tariffs, net metering, tax credits, and a strategic shift towards energy resource diversification, steering away from fossil fuels.
