CSR and sustainable development goals in the Romanian higher education system

The aim of the paper is to identify the level of knowledge and the attitudes toward CSR and sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Romanian higher education system which is mostly represented by public institutions. The methodology consists of applying a questionnaire to students, professors and managers in Romanian universities in order to identify the interest in CSR and any of the SDGs in the Agenda 2030. Besides the quantitative research, a qualitative analysis was conducted, highlighting the initiatives promoted by the top higher education institutions in Romania. The results are useful for other researchers and practitioners because the topic of CSR and SDGs in public universities of Romania is not often presented, mainly because these aspects are considered to be more specific to private entities. For having a more sustainable world, it is important to understand the role played by CSR projects that might represent a way to accomplish the SDGs. Universities might focus on some SDGs that are more related to their main educational activities. Still, higher education forms students who become active citizens. Educating them to be more oriented to CSR and sustainable development could bring numerous benefits to the community in the long term.
