Abstract

This chapter focuses on the cultural phenomenon of widespread use of stratagem across various areas in China. It emphasises that Western academics and practitioners have not given enough attention to the strategic implications of this culture. This cultural phenomenon has ancient roots and has significantly influenced the thinking and strategic behaviour of the Chinese people. The chapter scrutinises the concept of stratagem in the context of China, explores the development of the stratagem culture, and discusses the implications for both academics and practitioners.
