Conclusion: shifting power, resources and mindsets - from crisis response to sustainable development

Just a few years before the 2030 finishing line for the SDGs the world is increasingly normalising the notion of crisis itself, and of being in constant crisis response mode. In this context the contributions in the book make a strong case for a new vision for health as a global public good based on inclusion in which the delivery of public goods is put first and prioritises protection of access to health for vulnerable groups. Four main cross-cutting strands emerge: the need for honest participation and inclusion, the value of integrated approaches across different SDGs, the importance of gender transformative approaches to the challenges of discrimination and climate change, and the importance of joined up, robust and accountable public governance. The book authors emphasise the need for fundamental shifts in mindsets, resources and power to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for all in a more sustainable world.
