Abstract

Increasingly, many investors globally have recently come to believe that incorporating environmental, social and governance issues in investment decision making play a significant role in the long-term wealth maximisation and performance of investors. It is becoming obvious that corporations cannot achieve their long-term sustainable financial return by externalising their costs to society and ignoring the effects of their activities on the environment. It is worth noting that an increasing number of investors no longer see financial returns as the only value for their investment but also require that there are positive impacts of their investments on society and humanity. Given the importance of this topical issue, this chapter reviews sustainable and responsible investment portfolio construction and asset allocation from developing market perspective. The chapter provides an overview of portfolio management and discusses sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) portfolio management and SRI performance.
