Abstract

Existing tourism literature has provided empirical evidence for the predictive ability of tourism experience on the quality of life (QoL). However, there is still a need to examine their connection further from a comprehensive perspective based on the extant literature on tourism. Thus, this chapter applies a bibliometric approach to review 1390 tourism experience and QoL studies. The goal of this chapter is threefold: (1) to clarify the antecedents and salient factors of the tourism experience; (2) to delineate the connection between the tourism experience and QoL; and (3) to provide suggestions for future research. It is hoped that the approach taken in the chapter can provide valuable insights into the research trends and knowledge gaps related to tourist experience and quality of life, which can inform future research and policy development in the field of tourism. The chapter concludes that QoL has a reciprocal effect on the tourism experience and acts as an important mediator between the tourism experience and behavioral outcomes.
