Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the numerous socioeconomic challenges and disparities that exists globally, and more so in the cities, prompting a need to re-think the existing urban models, and the regeneration approaches that could be initiated to mitigate or correct the underlying problems. In the height of those dilemma, the '15-Minute City' concept has emerged as a potential planning pathway that could be adopted in cities to address the gaps on the social, economic and urban health issues that have been exposed, and which have led to the widespread of this pandemic. While this concept majorly advocates for a change in urban morphology, it could have massive potential especially if anchored on the Smart Cities networks and strongholds. This chapter seek to explore how this concept can become a success especially by incorporating some of the aspects of the Smart City networks and technologies, in reinforcing the social dimension which this model inherently advocate.
