Abstract

This chapter sketches several dimensions of rising worker insecurity in the United States since about 1970. It also explains how conventional economic theory blinds economists to this reality, and argues that a fundamental reconstruction of economics - grounded in history and institutional reality - is required to better deal with rising insecurity and other real-world economic problems.
