Abstract

Peer coaching groups (PCGs) have been increasingly used to facilitate learning and provide emotional support. Research indicates that PCGs are cost-efficient, accessible, and inclusive. Moreover, PCGs could help destigmatize help-seeking behavior and improve students’ mental health. However, existing research often lacks explicit descriptions of PCG practice in academic settings and comprehensive analysis of the factors that make these groups effective to support mental health. This chapter analyzes existing PCG approaches in universities and their possible impact on the mental health of the participants. Evidence-based practical recommendations on designing an effective PCG are also provided.
