Accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity in teaching economics online

Preparing to teach an increasingly diverse student population in the post-pandemic era highlights the need to use effective technology-enhanced learning strategies. Online education offers promising opportunities to promote inclusivity, but also pitfalls and challenges needing careful consideration. We explore effective pedagogical approaches to promote economics education that appropriately address accessibility, diversity and inclusion, with particular attention to online and hybrid learning environments. We advocate for a commitment to developing an inclusive learning environment grounded on a sincere approach to the value of equality of learning opportunity, and a commitment to using student diversity as a source of richness in learning activities. In this spirit, we explore issues surrounding the content of instruction, the techniques and tools, as well as the relationship between staff, students, and the whole learning community.
