Benchmarking overcrowded national parks

Abstract

A definitional benchmark of the extent that each national park is overcrowded in 2019 is posited in this chapter. The benchmark is defined in terms of the ratio of the number of in-season recreation visits to the number of off-season recreation visits. The calculation of this benchmark is illustrated for a sample of national parks, and the final calculated benchmark value for each national park is presented.
