Abstract

The climate-smart society of the future requires fossil-free transport; this transition to more environmentally responsible supply chains targeting more effective logistics using less resources and a change to fossil free energy, respectively. In addition, logistics is expected to provide new business opportunities for many companies. But this is only for those that can create the innovative and flexible logistics systems required to realize these opportunities. These demands on future supply chains will change the way we work with logistics development to a ‘test-and-learn’ approach, with continuous experimenting of new logistics solutions, while swiftly phasing out others. ‘Experimental logistics development’ (ELD) is inspired by how the software industry is using technological and digital inventions to improve their offerings. The fast fashion company H&M has adopted this approach to make their logistics more dynamic and to be able to compete with greener supply chains, as conceptualized in this chapter.
