Implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for business schools

Abstract

Educating the leaders of tomorrow will be more about teaching students how to think than specifically what to “know.” For business schools, the challenge is adapting to be flexible and economically viable in the new future of students’ needs. This chapter explores how the Fourth Industrial Revolution will impact business schools and how they go about educating business students to be decision-makers who can see strategic issues with high flexibility, demonstrate empathy from multiple perspectives, and respond with creativity in new and innovative ways. In addition, the chapter explores the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed, the role of the administration and faculty, and the role of alumni and external organizations. The chapter makes the case that leadership can be taught, and offers a case study in support of that.
