Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to fill the gap in the literature about frugal innovation (FI) in the context of energy (E) through presenting an analysis of publications that address the analyzed issue. A particular interest was put into renewable energy (RE). For the purpose of this study, the following research questions were formulated: What is the bibliometric structure of the “frugal innovation - energy” (“FI-E”) research field? How is the “frugal innovation - renewable energy” (“FI-RE”) research area placed in the broader FI-E research field? What are the main contributions in the “FI-RE” research field? What are the future research directions in the analyzed field of knowledge? What are the practical implications recommended? As a result, a thematic evolution map that identifies the emerging themes was provided. The analyses leads to implications of both theoretical and practical nature.
