Abstract

This book closes by offering a portmanteau of eight themes of around one thousand words each that that also illustrate elements of Rethinking of Economics as Social Theory. First, I explore some grounds on which it is reasonable to treat systems and not persons as causal agents. Second, I offer a reconceptualization of property rights from within an entangled system of political economy. Third, I approach competition differently by asking whether competition might be just another word for liberty. Fourth, I examine some peculiar features of nonprofit enterprise. Fifth, I explain that marginal cost pricing is an illusory economic concept. Sixth, I examine the empty character of welfare economics. Seventh, I contrast local and global elements in human nature. Eighth, I explore the economic foundations of economic theory.
