Abstract

For the successful development of a start-up, the founders have to solve many different challenges and pay particular attention to a good capitalization of the company. In order to be convinced of the project, external investors carry out a review of the company's substance and evaluate various risk factors to create a risk profile. Intellectual property rights are a powerful instrument to reduce the risk of investments and thus bring about a positive investment decision. For the founders/managing directors, the creation and management of intellectual property rights are of strategic importance, which can be codified by a common set of values. On the basis of a clear catalogue of values, a pragmatic process can be set up which regularly implements the intellectual property rights strategy and ultimately leads to new intellectual property rights. In the end, this approach also benefits the start-up. If the risk for the investment is reduced, the overall risk for the company and the entrepreneurs is also reduced!
