Organizational power and politics in Asia

Power and politics are inevitable as they have been the backbone of organizational structures, systems, and interpersonal relationships. The present research has paid much attention to understanding power and politics in the workplace using Western samples of participants. The authors contend that contemporary literature has been incomplete and inconclusive without insightful evidence of Asian contexts. This chapter elaborates an overview of the originality of power and politics in Asia and the current state of scholarly research on this small and growing research stream. Despite the ongoing discussion about power and politics within the Asian context, the authors have observed the scarcity of context-sensitive research connecting cultural and political perspectives into power and politics in Asia. Because Asian issues are underdeveloped, discovering power and politics in Asia can substantially increase the interest among scholars and practitioners in theoretical and practical domains. Therefore, the authors have offered several implications and directions for future studies.
