The role of shared e-micromobility in sustainable transportation

Abstract

Shared e-micromobility, including shared e-bikes and shared e-scooters, is widely regarded as a sustainable transport mode. In order to get an in-depth understanding of its role in sustainable transport, we conducted a systematic review on the use of shared e-bikes and shared e-scooters. We compared their similarities and differences in user characteristics, including user demographics, trip information (e.g. trip purposes, trip frequencies, trip distances and duration), and mode choice behavior. We also identified the reasons for and barriers to the adoption of shared e-micromobility, and discussed its positive and negative environment impacts. Finally, we suggested some directions for future research on shared e-micromobility.
