Mobile territories of wellbeing: advancing mobility justice as territorial

Understanding wellbeing, we argue, is pivotal to research agendas for mobility justice. Drawing on the work of Deleuze and Guattari, this chapter introduces the concept of ‘mobile territories of wellbeing’ and invites readers to comprehend becoming well as emergent within the socio-material relations that simultaneously comprise a sense of self and place. The chapter discusses how the work of Deleuze and Guattari offers the possibility to conceive of wellbeing as an ongoing socio-material territorial process through better understanding mobility experiences and ways of making sense of the world on-the-move. To do so, the chapter highlights the related concepts of assemblage, territories, and lines (molar, molecular and rupture) to engage with the politics of wellbeing. A mobile territories of wellbeing framework points to mobility (in)justice, through highlighting how making sense of the world-on-the-move works for, and against, possibilities to belong on different axes of difference.
