Urban and rural area developments

Urban and rural areas are interesting for many reasons, most recently for the changes each is undergoing. Urban areas are revising their attachment to the automobile and are introducing initiatives such as the "15 minute city", bicycle and pedestrian lanes in city streets, and limiting access to the city center by gas-powered vehicles. Rural areas are re-imagining their relationship with the larger economy through "borrowing size", networking and other advances in transportation and communication. One recent initiative that has had impacts on both urban and rural areas is telecommuting - working from home several days in the week, or home working in which the worker is no longer present in the firm's offices. This may have a negative on urban areas as the center of a city loses customers for retail, entertainment and dining, and the demand for office space is diminished. The positive impact on rural areas comes from increased attractiveness to urban workers who seek a more pleasant and less hectic place to raise a family and to work.
