Smart cities: components and elements in the Brazilian context

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of the open eco-innovation (OEI) mode on employment by considering Italian environment-related networks. Specifically, we use a dataset on Italian business network agreements that constitute a policy instrument that was introduced in 2010 to strengthen both the innovation capacity and the competitiveness of Italian firms. The empirical findings are interesting and potentially inspiring for future empirical studies. This type of OEI has a positive impact on employment, in both eco-industries and non-eco-industries, and this positive effect appears to be higher in the case of non-eco-industries. The empirical analysis also shows the relevance of regional green sensitivity in increasing the impact of OEI on employment.
