Abstract

This chapter focuses on historical institutionalism in health care research. First, it reviews some of the main approaches and tools of historical institutionalism such as policy feedback and path dependency; critical junctures; and gradual institutional change. Then, it presents a selection of studies of historical institutionalism in health care in order to indicate the variety of approaches and tools in the historical institutionalism toolbox.
