Abstract

For most of its existence, the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) suffered from a lack of scholarly interest, despite being one of the leading venues for international policy making on development. This changed fundamentally with a growing body of literature on the committee. This chapter provides a general overview of the history of the OECD-DAC, followed by a detailed overview of how the development of the literature on the Committee unfolded over time, as such distinguishing between two research traditions. Somewhat ironically, though, this chapter concludes that at a time when the study of the OECD-DAC matured, it perhaps makes little sense to still study the Committee as a distinct body due to the changing international context in which the DAC’s - more than ever before - needs to seek itself a new role and place.
