The Paris Agreement’s ‘Nationally Determined Contribution’: law and practice

In: Research Handbook on the Law of the Paris Agreement

Abstract

The instrument of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) is subject to a legal scheme that may be beneficially examined separately from other elements of the Paris Agreement. The legal scheme for NDCs has drawn much comment, not all of it accurate. This chapter re-analyses the sources, critiques the commentary, offers a concise summary of NDC law, and examines how the legal interpretations as refined in this chapter stand up to NDC practice.
