Abstract

In Argentina, no offshore wind farms have been developed; only offshore oil and gas exploration takes place. However, Argentina has some of the best offshore wind resources in the world and in the last decade has expanded rapidly its renewable energy generation. It is expected, therefore, that offshore wind activity may take place in the future. Unlike almost all contributions to this book, Argentina has no specific offshore wind regime. Instead, it has a general set of rules that apply to renewable energy sources, in addition to its general electricity market. Since 2016, the Argentinian regulatory and policy framework has transformed to support the construction of renewable energy projects and attract investment to install new generation capacity. This regime will apply to offshore renewable energy projects if developed.
