Leadership that promotes access to services for marginalised people: championing better health and care for people with disability

Effective leadership is crucial for driving high-performing health and care systems. This chapter analyses the types of leadership that are needed to provide access to health and care services for people with disability. The chapter argues that leadership is not held by one individual or a small group of individuals but is the product of the interaction of a network of individuals. In creating better health and care for people with disability we need to see activity from a broad range of actors, sectors and institutions. As such we analyse Australian leadership initiatives at the macro, meso and micro levels to identify what works in championing better health and care for people with disability and what the implications of this are for leadership. We conclude by setting out seven lessons about leadership in driving better health and care for Australians with disability.
