Abstract

The introduction to Critical Geographies of Resistance traces the trajectory of the political work of resistance within Geography. Exploring dialectical Marxist accounts, the post-political, together with the importance of feminist and postcolonial scholarship, this chapter provides the framework for the collection of essays that follow. The chapter’s contention is that conceptualisations of resistance are characterised by a predetermination of form that particular actions or actors must assume to constitute resistance, and it calls for Geographers to engage with resistance in emergence. The chapter concludes by outlining the structure of the edited volume and its key themes.
