Navigating in concentrated economies: issues, controversies, and prospects

The chapter discusses the consequences of the new corporate landscape, including e.g., the growth on non-traditional labour contracts and new employment relations wherein individual employees are enacted as entrepreneurial figures, held responsible for their own economic welfare on basis of enterprising capacities and personal skills. The chapter addresses the corporate entity as a primary vehicle for economic welfare in advanced economies and societies, and in this view, policy makers need to consider not only the benefits but also the costs of concentrated economies. As discussed in Chapter Two, a one-sided focus on "consumer welfare" risk to undermine a broader perspective on economic affairs, which result in the downside risk of economic concentration is underestimated. The chapter thus concludes that the contours of the new corporate landscape presented in the current volume should be examined by policy makers.
