Abstract

This chapter provides a look into the development, progress, and future of experimental tax ethics research. A comprehensive summary of experimental tax research from 2000-2020 is provided. This prior literature examines ethical dilemmas and decisions that both taxpayers and tax professionals encounter that have been studied within an experimental setting. In addition, common issues that tax researchers face when conducting experimental ethics tax research are discussed, such as finding a proper participant pool. Finally, directions for future research and conclusions are provided.
