Abstract

This chapter examines the trans-local dimensions of entrepreneurial ecosystems through the lens of knowledge circulation. We argue that numerous entrepreneurial ecosystems exhibit high levels of global connectivity, with these trans-local connections playing a pivotal role in their success. The chapter develops a typology of trans-local ties between entrepreneurial ecosystems, analyzing the circulation of people, resources and ideas. Our typology considers personal, organizational and financial links, as well as their temporal aspects. Despite the regional specificities of individual ecosystems, we demonstrate the existence of globally circulated beliefs and practices that foster an international community of entrepreneurs, investors and ecosystem facilitators. This perspective contributes to the understanding of the geographies of entrepreneurial ecosystems by reconceptualizing them not merely as regional phenomena, but as highly interconnected nodes of entrepreneurial activity.
