Abstract

This chapter reviews both policy developments associated with Sport for Development and Peace over time, and academic literature and research on Sport for Development and Peace policy. The chapter starts with an introduction to definitions of ‘policy’ and different recognised features of policy analysis. This is then followed by an examination of global policies and the associated impetus for Sport for Development and Peace over time. Such global policies have commonly advocated for greater involvement of national governments in Sport for Development and Peace. The chapter therefore moves on to examine the extent and orientation of Sport for Development and Peace policies instigated by the governments of countries in both the Global North and South. The chapter concludes by giving consideration to possibilities for future policy development for Sport for Development and Peace, and the need for further academic policy analysis in the Sport for Development and Peace field.
