Abstract

Climate change will remain a current and consistent threat to the daily lives of many across the globe. As a result of climate change, how individuals consume sport as spectators or participants will also dramatically change. Sport, however, is an effective messenger to promote pro-environmental behaviours to spectators and participants. There is a global environmental movement occurring within the sport sector. The cornerstone of this change remains with individuals to encourage more sustainable lifestyles in our everyday lives and as we consume sport. This chapter outlines various sport for development and peace organisations leveraging sport to educate participants about sustainable lifestyles and climate advocacy. Further, we highlight non-governmental organisations supporting climate action and environmentally sustainable change in and through sport. We conclude on other future directions to enhance and advance the environmental movement in the global sport sector.
